That “third place”. The place where people gather with family and friends to celebrate, to overcome, to learn, to reignite and to link our mindsets with our methods and grow human achievement. We call it “BaseCamp”...this is how it began.
“Hey, did you guys see that property for sale?” It was the closest thing to a 3-way tie that we look back on. We had been looking for a place where we could expand our operations and this corner property in our hometown had caught our eyes. After a little bit of nostalgia for the great restaurants that previously occupied the building, we learned that it was pending auction. So in 2009, with the help of some local investors, we went to the auction, bid on the building and property and began the process of establishing our “brick and mortar” hub.
The township approval process took more time and resources than any of us liked but eventually the vision was clear. Our BaseCamp, that place where the health journey begins, was taking shape. It took major renovations to reduce the size of the commercial kitchen, put in 3 physical therapy treatment rooms, and a gym space that more than doubled what we currently had. But here, our whole person approach to a healthy lifestyle had a place for each of our ELEMENTS. We excitedly took on the arduous process of bringing this vision to life. Could this town become a Blue Zone with the right facilitation? Could we create that “third place” that folks go to after work and home? Could we cultivate a community that centered on those life-giving principles, the first iteration of our ELEMENTS of exercise (MOVE), healthy eating (FUEL), physical therapy (RECOVER), endurance training (ENDURE) and a group of like-minded friends to do it with (CONNECT)? We had to.
BaseCamp has been that “third place”. The place where people gather with family and friends to celebrate, to overcome, to learn, to reignite and to link our mindsets with our methods and grow human achievement. We believed in this physical space on such a deep level that to not act on this opportunity would have been like turning your back on your mission. We started our journey as those local clients started theirs - at the bottom of the mountain, with our eyes fixed upwards!
